Devi Eddins, a graduate of Wake Forest University has been a part of the team at Arts For Life Winston-Salem, for several years. Her first internship with Arts For Life began in the summer of 2006. Devi came to the art table twice a week for 2 – 3 hours in the morning, assisting Arts For Life’s Program Director in teaching art to the patients in the Hem/Onc Clinic at Brenner Children’s Hospital.

Internships

INTERNSHIP PROGRAM

  • AFL offers internships to college students, recent graduates, and community members across North Carolina. There are four AFL chapters:  Asheville, Charlotte, Winston-Salem and Durham. 
  • AFL staff train interns to teach visual arts, music and creative writing to pediatric patients and their siblings. 
  • Interns gain skills in teaching the arts, working in hospital settings, and mentoring patients with serious illnesses.

INTERNSHIP REPONSIBLILITIES

  • Commit to a minimum of nine months working in hospital inpatient units and hospital outpatient clinics
  • Teach arts four to twelve  hours per week
  • Prepare and execute ten art lessons for pediatric patients
  • Organize displays of patients’ art work
  • Make art kits for patients
  • Record day to day teaching experiences
  • Keep detailed records on all patients
